What is Otoplasty (big ears)?

Pavilion Surgery
Protruding ears require quick plastic surgery.
This surgery should be performed at an age when the ears are already formed, that is, around 5 or 6 years old.
Adults may also benefit from this surgery.

Is Otoplasty a procedure right for you?

The important thing for the success of the otoplasty is that the ears are proportionate to the size and shape of the face and head.
When a child is going to have a otoplasty, parents should be convinced that it is in their child’s best interest.
Age is very important. If surgery is performed at an early age, there are two factors to consider: cartilage is very malleable, allowing it to be shaped properly, and the child experiences the psychological benefits of improved appearance.

How the surgery is performed

The Z-plasty technique is a method of moving a scar from one area to another, usually in a natural fold of the skin to minimize its visibility. Although the Z-technique does not completely remove the scar, it makes it less visible.
With dermabrasion and laser, it is possible to remove the scar bump, removing part of the layers of the skin with a scraper or with the laser beam. As with all scars, it is not removed but becomes less visible.
Keloids and hypertrophic scars are first treated with local injections of corticosteroids to reduce their size. If this method is not satisfactory, the scars are surgically removed, and the incisions are closed with fine sutures resulting in less visibility.

What to expect after surgery

Swelling, bruising, and redness are usually unavoidable. It is very important to follow the surgeon’s instructions. Although the suture is removed within a few days of surgery, your skin needs time to heal.

You have to remember that scars take about 1 year to complete and get the best look.
